Water:

Low tide flats for about 100 yards off beach. Clean water. Generally flat, with wind driven swells when wind picks up. Nice breakers given depth of water in 20+ knots of wind.

Beach:

Most wide open public beach in western CT. Jetties and piers exist, but other than that the beach is over 1 mile long. The beach is generally sandy with decent width. Watch out for some rocks (mainly sandy) and some shells.

Weather:

Typical New England weather with temps below freezing in the winter and well into the 70-90 F range in the summer. Generally doesn't blow much in the summer. Spring and Fall are best because the temp isn't that cold yet, but the winds are stronger more often. The water is cold in the spring, fall and winter (40s and 50s °F). warm in summer (70s °F).

Wind:

North: sideoffshore

Northwest: offshore

West: sideoffshore

Southwest: sideshore

South: sideonshore

Southeast: onshore

East: sideonshore

Northeast: sideshore

Winter, spring and fall are kiteable/sailable 3-4 out of 7 days, with 1 out of 7 being great conditions. Summer is more hit/miss with 1 or 2 days out of 7 that are kiteable. How to get there: New Haven Metro North Train from NYC to Milford. Exit I-95 N 33 or exit 34 I-95 S. Head to water. Park as far as you can east, then walk east past the first jetty.

Rules & Restrictions:

Kiters should stay as far east as possible.
