Spot Details

Public parking is available on Water Street adjacent to the boardwalk, Confederation Trail and grassy area (narrow in places but wide at the west end). Clean porta-potties are found at the west end and a great seafood restaurant (The Shipyard) at the east end. Access to the red sand beach (the beach is largely covered in seaweed at low tide and tiny at high tide) is over a rock retaining wall but there are pedestrian walks. A breakwater protects much of the area from large swell and the peninsula to the south-east may provide refuge if things really go wrong on northerlies. Water can be PEI red at the shoreline but the bottom slopes slowly. Large shallow areas appear in the bay at low tide.
